Sew It: Habitual-Simplesundress….. October 7, 2009

Posted by preeta pillai in Sew it - Sewing.

After the previous week’s desperate stitching mood, suddenly this week was a little low for me in terms of sewing, And then came Wednesday and the long awaited Mayya’s Sew it feature.

Today morning the first thing I did after kids went to school was to, access Mayya’s blog to see what she had featured on her Sew it project. The moment I saw that Simple sundress the adrenalin rush in me was so…. much  that I just wanted to start sewing it.

After taking some time in deciding the material I would use, I wasted no time and started sewing the sundress. I  dint move from the front of my sewing machine, till my kids came back home from school.  I only  had to finish the hem and inserting the tie, but I had to get up to give lunch to my kids. I was itching so much to finish it and then get up, but priority calls…..

Anyway, I immediately came back to my sewing and here’s the result….. I feel so happy after stitching this.  This dress is for my niece who turned 4 today, I am sure she will love it. What a perfect timing, for this feature.

Thank’s  a lot Mayya,  I can understand how busy you are with the opening of your shop, but you took time to find this tutorial and featured it.

This tutorial is by Amy of Habitual creature of habit and you can get this from her Web site.

Close up of the neck tie….

I really enjoyed sewing this sundress. I am sure you all will enjoy too….

Until my next post,  Its Bye from Preeta.

Warli painting on a clay pot: October 3, 2009

Posted by preeta pillai in Warli painting.

Its been long since I touched my paints, actually I was in a sewing spree. So today I decided to paint on my clay pot which had lost its natural clay color and luster during Gonu. [ During Gonu my house was leaking cats and dogs, and all the stuff that I had kept on the floor got damaged. We were in India on a holiday and thankfully my friend to whom I had given my house key to water my indoor plants realized that my house was leaking and she saved my stuffs.]

Actually after painting on it I realized that I should have taken a snap in its original condition . Anyway here’s the end result.

I have placed a table lamp on it, and when the light falls on the pot it gives a nice effect.

Here are some more pictures…..

I was so……. happy to give it a new look.

For now its Bye from Preeta.

Sew It – Basket September 29, 2009

As I was going through the previous Sew it projects on Mayya’s blog I saw this basket, Its a very cute thing and as I had already started organizing my sewing stuff I thought I might sew this one. It was a little confusing for me going through the tutorial and stitching, but I think I managed it fine. DSCN5025

Usually I call Nima 10 times to ask my doubts, but since Nima is on a trip to Dubai I had to manage myself. But I was satisfied with the result.

While I was uploading my snaps an idea struck me!!  This is a festival season for us and I thought I can gift these baskets filled with nice candles  to my friends for Diwali (By the way Diwali is called the festival of lights,  Hindus celebrate this festival by lighting candles everywhere around there house and this symbolises end of evil and darkness.)

I am so….. thrilled, I will stitch in some bright and lovely colours. Thanks Mayya for this wonderful tutorial.

Utility tray September 28, 2009

I found this cloth tray very practical and easy to sew…. So I decided to make it immediately. As it is I was trying to organize my sewing stuff and this is perfect to keep my threads, rick-racks etc in a proper manner in my cupboard shelves. DSCN5011

This can also be used to organize your children’s stuff.  Like shown in this picture….

Some more close ups of the utility tray… I have used interfacing, instead of fusible fleece, and two different colour polka dots fabric. I am happy with the outcome.

Anyone interested can get the tutorial from Mad Quilter.

This time its a wrist pin cushion on Sew it.  I was so engrossed in learning to crochet that I almost missed this wednesday’s  feature on Mayya’s blog I was so….  tempted to do it later but, then I felt I should try to finish it since its such a small and simple project. Once I was through I felt great, moreover this will be my first pin-cushion.  Here’s the picture …..DSCN5021

You can get this tutorial on the long thread.  I just took 1hr to complete it.

I have also started sewing a tray. You can see it soon on my next post. Till then take care… Bye from Preeta

Hi, Last week we had a long break due to Eid holidays, We had fun with our family and friends and meanwhile I also tried learning crochet.

Crochet was one thing I wished to learn since a long time….. Nima’s crochet projects motivated me more. She has done some really lovely stuff and that inspired me to learn it immediately.  This granny’s square is from Teresa’s  crochet blog. I know its not as perfect as it should be, but given the fact that I dint even know to hold a crochet needle , I was so excited with the end result that I immediately decided to blog it.  Teresa has some wonderful tutorials on learning to  crochet. If somebody wishes to learn check her blog.

I am so……. happy finally I learnt to crochet. You can look forward to seeing more stuff .

This time I have tried to paint on .a small bowl, that I picked up from Diaso, Muscat, yesterday.  The moment I saw the bowl I felt wow!! I’ll try my warli painting on this. I think it looks quite nice.

I am eager to take part in Sew it,  since yesterday Nima and I went out shopping for materials and I cant wait to use them in the next project.   We got some pretty printed material… Looking forward for the next project. Till then Bye!!

Sew it: A Table Runner September 13, 2009

Hi there,  I got a taste of sew it from Nima, who is a regular participant in Sew it: Sew Chic and Unique.  I was so fascinated by the simple projects they do in the sew it section. Though I am a recent admirer of this blog, I have seen all the previous projects that has been done in their sew it section by Nima.  And that’s how I decided to participate too. I am just a beginner in sewing, but I love the simple ideas they feature on Sew Chic and Unique.

This tutorial was by Betz White . I still have’nt  introduced myself to  Mayya  of Sew Chic and Unique. But with this I hope we will get to know each other.

I should mention here that Mayya’s sew it projects are really excellent for beginners, and once you do it there is a sense of achievement.  I hope I can be a regular participant  on her blog.

Till the Next project, Bye from Preeta.

variations in warli September 8, 2009

I tried doing warli on a perfumed glass candle, and I was quite impressed with the result. Though here I have not used glass paints since I dint have it with me. But this one is done using acrylic paints. It would look better using glass paints.

The next one is done on a tile. It can be used as a wall hanging. All these are my trial versions. Slowly as I get used to doing more of these, I am sure each one will turn out better and better.

The above pattern is from an invitation card, that I saw on the net.

This one was taken from a huge painting pattern, I have taken only part of the village scene, since I am still getting used to this type of art. September 5, 2009
